Spain’s Music Industry Sees Double-Digit Growth, Driven by Streaming Boom

The Spanish music industry has experienced a significant surge in revenue in 2024, with the recorded music market posting a 16.6% growth in the first half of the year. This growth pushed total revenue to €249.8 million, marking a strong recovery for the industry and reinforcing Spain's position as a growing market for both local and international music.

Streaming’s Dominant Role

The key driver of this growth has been the continued rise of music streaming. Paid subscription services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, alongside ad-supported streaming platforms, contributed substantially to the increase in revenue. Paid subscriptions alone accounted for the majority of streaming revenue, signaling a shift in consumer behavior as more listeners opt for premium services to enjoy music without interruptions from ads.

According to industry reports, streaming now makes up over 80% of Spain’s total recorded music revenue, aligning with global trends that show streaming as the primary method of music consumption. The convenience and affordability of streaming services have made them particularly popular among younger audiences, further fueling the growth.

Physical Formats and Vinyl Resurgence

While streaming dominates, physical formats, particularly vinyl records, have also shown resilience in the Spanish market. Vinyl sales have seen a steady increase, reflecting a global resurgence in the format driven by collectors and audiophiles who value its tangible and nostalgic appeal. Though physical sales represent a smaller portion of overall revenue, they remain an important niche segment for both independent and major labels.

A Bright Future for Spanish Music

Spain’s music market is increasingly becoming a hub for both international artists and local talent. The combination of strong streaming growth, an expanding fanbase, and a steady demand for live performances positions Spain as a key player in the European music scene.

As the industry continues to evolve, experts predict further expansion, with opportunities for artists to reach new audiences and capitalize on the growing demand for digital music consumption.
